Can you even believe it?
I honestly can't. In fact I've been saying "I can't believe it" with a soft chuckle to myself for six straight hours, and I don't see me stopping any time soon.
I'm pinching myself to make sure that the team that won eight total games the last two years, that last year had an offensive line so bad they debated not playing their stud rookie QB for fear of it being classified as malpractice, the team who went through an organizational cleanse 10 months ago, with a roster that had NO ONE considering them threats prior to the season and even midway through this season, is going to the Super Bowl. The fucking Super Bowl!
It's so incredible. I'm soft chuckling to myself as I type this.
It wasn't pretty on Sunday, but as they’ve done all postseason they did enough. The offensive line held their own after a rough first quarter which gave Drake happy feet in the pocket. The defense made the crucial turnover to give us the jumpstart we needed after an abysmal half of offense. The offense took the wind out of Denver's crowd's sails coming out of half on a nine-minute drive that gave the Pats their first lead. The special teams blocked a potential game tying kick late in the fourth quarter as both offenses were struggling to move the ball in a blizzard. The defense came up with another turnover that was a carbon copy of the Gilmore INT on Goff in Super Bowl 53.
And Drake Maye took an uncalled naked boot to glory, stiff arming his way to Levi's Stadium.
Once again, the Patriots put on a complementary football masterclass. They didn't turn the ball over, made their opponents make the mistake, and capitalized when they did. That's what the Patriots of old did. That's what it takes to win playoff games.
The team that was fool's gold is going to Gold Country with it's eyes set on a Lombardi. The team that didn't play anyone just beat the third top five defense this postseason, and became the first team to ever do so. The team that was too young and unproven has grown up in front of the nation's eyes, and become the first team in the history of the NFL to finish a season 9-0 on the road. There's nothing else to say.
I hope to God people on TV or whatever outlet they talk their bullshit on keep the same energy. I don't want the fool's gold brigade to come out tomorrow and call us 24 carat. I don't want the schedule merchant squad to say anything other than that was a fraudulent win against a backup QB.
Keep talking your shit. We clearly don't mind.
We play elite level defense. We play top 5 defense after top 5 defense and make enough plays to advance. We don't care who we play, where we play, or when we play. As long as we got us. We all we got. We all we need.
I love this team.
See you in Santa Clara.
