Breathe. It's all gonna be okay.

Idk when; probably won't be today, or next week, or even this season. But at some point, it will be okay. I hope.

Am I nervous that the franchise's future is taking the field behind an offensive line that would struggle blocking The Mean Machine of Allenville Penitentiary's front four? That the same offensive line that wasn't good enough to put Drake behind center week 1, who's now lost the arguably only good player they had to begin with, team captain and O Line figurative captain David Andrews, is going to be ready to block for him now? The same offensive line that was so bad they had one of their week 1 starters quit football?

No, I'm not nervous. I'm petrified.

I understand but don't understand the logic. Jarod Mayo said this week "Drake gives us the best chance to win", but he also said that after the final preseason game when he said Drake was the best QB in the locker room but wasn't planning to play him. Based on those comments and how the preseason went, it was obvious he wasn't playing because of the O line. So what changed?

"His athleticism stands out and will allow us to have more off-script plays that you're used to seeing on TV" is another quote from this week presser.

Is this something they're just realizing now? That the 31-year old seasoned backup isn't as athletic as the 22-year old young buck? Maybe they expected Jacoby to be more effective with scrambles and runs as he's shown glimpes of in the past, but I think a reason he hasn't shown that is at least partly due to the offensive line debacle that's been taking place in front of him.

"I've been impressed with his football acumen, and his control of the huddle and mental game has continued to improve since the preseason, where we were all pleasantly surprised how high it was to begin with".

I have so many questions with this. I guess good that they were surprised how good it was, but why did they draft him if they didn't already know? I'm probably reading too much into this. I'm in a fragile state so please excuse me.

He's growing week in and week out, great. That's what should happen. But in five weeks he's leaps and bounds better? So much better that he's wiped out the plan that was seemingly in place from the jump? My only logical solution is he's a super genius and a few draft interviews and training camp as the new guy where the super genius doesn't want to be too cocky about his super geniusness (you know, social barriers of being a super genius type stuff) didn't really show his true self, but once the QB battle was over he came into his shell and he's completely transformed his game to be the best QB football has ever seen.

It could happen. And the Patriots need it to happen.

Not all the stats show it but I believe they're the worst offense in the NFL. They've yet to eclipse 20 points in a game, and are averaging a whopping 1 TD per contest. They've yet to have over 150 yards of passing in a game (including sacks). I didn't bother checking every team in the league, they have to be the only team that can say that. They trail only the Browns in sacks given up, and we all know my thoughts on DeShaun Watson at this point.

So come on in Drake!

Like I said I understand the move. The offense is so incompetent they need to try something. We're 1-4 trending to 1-16. We're having team captains arrested for strangulation, and reports of mutiny in the locker room are running rampant.

I will not believe Jarod when he says the lack of offensive production didn't expedite putting Drake Maye. I'm not sure how much of that 10-minute press conference I believe at all.

But I do believe Drake Maye gives the Patriots the best chance to win. The thing is, I, along with Jarod, thought that six weeks ago. So while I'm excited that the next chapter of the New England Patriots gets underway this afternoon, my expectations will remain rendered.

We must stay patient. We must not panic. For this is the way forward. And we will continue forward.
